Catchin up on things

Real busy this past turkey weekend. Finished up the board tracker for the most part.
Engine detail work:
Sandblasted the 11 ga engine cut out that was cut by hand with the plasma. The fins are some alien grating I never seen before. There are no welds, just notched pieces of 1" flat bar stuck together. Cut them into 4, 4" x 5" pieces then used a giant disk sander to shave down and round off the corners so they looked more like cylinder fins.

Made a small carb from some pipe, giant washer, and a cap for fence post as the float bowl. Added a cam cover made from 6" pipe, capped off with a piece of sheet metal with nuts tacked to the inside for bolts to screw into for show. Then added pushrods from the left over 3/8 round bar from the fork braces.

Primary side

Hub sprocket from another rear wheel. Also made from left over pipe from the gas tank.

Double crank sprocket installed.

Primer

Now some paint.

Sneak Peek. Almost done, just have to letter the tank.

Board Track Racer

Finished up the gas tank tabs, engine mounts welded to the frame, and exhaust pipes cut and fitted to the engine cut out. This thing is starting to shape up more and more.

quick update

Quick crappy cell phone pics for a quick crappy update. Gas tank is mounted along with the engine mounts made. Will post better pics tomorrow when I bring my camera along with me.

board track engine cut out

Spent much of the day in the shop cutting out the facade of the engine that will be sitting in the frame. Some things will be added to this cut out to make it more 3d -carb, fins, cam cover, engine sprocket, exhaust pipes etc. Also made the engine mounts but screwed up the bottom one. I'll make a new one of the weekend.

We have a gas tank now

It took a bit if planning and drawing and measuring making cardboard templates until I got the severe angle I needed. The cap plates are made too, but I'm not going to weld them on until I figure out my mounting brackets. Its starting to look like something now!

Boardtrack Forks!

Bent up some 3/8 rod for the fork braces

Just have to make the plate that comes off the headset that mounts to the top of the fork braces and then the front end is done.

Smoothed out all the welds. This frame is really starting to shape up!

Got the center stand mounted properly. I had to shave a tab off on the top, and drill a hole in the axle mount for the other tab.

There it sits as of now. I'm getting there!

Boardtrack work

Time to get this frame buttoned up! Made some miter cuts, cleaned up the neck and set this thing up the best kind of jig I could make.

I noticed the neck had a sleeve inside the downtube. I decided it would be great to use to tie into my new downtube.

So with some careful cuts by hand with the hack saw, I was about to cut a portion of the old downtube away revealing the factory inner sleeve.

I used some 1x3 square tube that was laying around to set my frame up on. I forgot to take pictures of when I tacked the neck to the backbone. That was laid out flat on the table with clamps and angle iron.
To basically make sure this thing was straight I checked the level of the neck compared to the seat post. My biggest concern was keeping the forks straight to the rest of the frame. Everything checked in.

You can see what I mean with keeping the neck level with the seat post.

Thar she be! It's just tacked together for now, Ill finish welding it another day.
Also finished the center frame rail. I kept that parallel to the top rail by fitting a 4inch piece of square tube against the top rail and butted the center rail up tight against it.

With the forks on

Hard to tell from the picture but by standing behind it, its pretty darn straight. Not bad for eyeball engineering.

More work on the board tracker

Back in the shop again today. Time to make that lower downtube.

A line was drawn along the top to keep the pipe straight and the tick marks about every 1/4 inch.

The first pass

Back in hossfeld

Second pass. Getting closer.

3rd pass plus the upper part bent to match up to the neck.

I then had this gaping hole that had to be filled from the old downtube.

Found a piece of pipe similar in diameter and cut out a circle about the size of a nickle.

Fits like a glove.

All welded in. Add some paint and no one will ever know. More to come later.
