Some 3D stuff: Wall of Death

I made this in 2009, in Maya, a 3D modeling and animating program. I Modeled it directly from the California Hell Rider's Wall of Death. I Met the crew at the Rhinebeck Swapmeet. Super cool people, they allowed me to go inside the wall for reference photos. At the following Rhinebeck meet in 2010 I gave them prints of the final renders. They were pretty stoked about it.

Old harleys sure do have some hard lines to follow....

Did a little more work on the 3d Knucklehead! Its now a roller!

Just finished the front end tonight, about another 6 hours worth of work.

Now remember folks, there are no measurements taken, no number crunching to get these models made. I am doing this all by eye and a few reference photos. The best way I can explain to people how I do my 3d work is like modeling with clay. You start with one simple shape, and just start forming it into what you want. This isnt the kind of program where you enter a bunch of numbers, hit ENTER and its done. This takes a critical artistic eye, and a strong sense of space and form.

These are older models I made a long time ago in a different program. Thats why they look different compared to the other models.

April Feature Bike

Each month I will try to bring a new feature bike that displays the epitome of what RetroFit is all about. And how can you have a featured motorcycle without an Easy Rider's Hal Robinson sketch to go with it. So without further a do....
This month's feature bike I bring you The David Mann-Buzzard '53 Panhead.
Originally built by Buzzard, not exactly sure what year, but possibly early or mid sixties. It was eventually sold to his good friend David Mann. This bike is the cream of the crop. Rumor has it the bike was parted out and sold not too long ago. (pics swiped from various places and the JJ)

Captain America

Just finished this 3rd or maybe even now 4th version of my 3D model of the Captain America bike. I first made this model in highschool and looking back on it, man did it look like crap. Over the years my modeling, texturing, and rendering skills have improved and the model has slowly been massaged into what you see today. The model still isn't perfect, there are more things that need to be added.
